What about driving in Mexico?
You can drive there with your U.S. driverâs license and most
of the same common sense rules apply to driving in Mexico as they do in the
U.S.Ê Driving in Mexico has a few
differences compared to driving in the U.S.Ê
Here are some of the ones you should pay attention to.
- When
driving on the main highways and many other streets the common rule followed
when you want to make a left hand turn is to pull over to the right shoulder
of the road and wait for traffic to pass you and then make your turn.Ê
This takes a little getting used to but can save you from an accident.
- When a
car wishes to pass you on a two-lane highway or road you pull over, even
on to the shoulder and let them pass.Ê
Oncoming traffic will do the same so that the passing vehicle may
pass down the center.
- Remember
that being cautious and driving defensively is always the best way to stay
out of trouble.
- It is
also wise to remember that when you drive in Mexico you are driving in
their country and their rules apply!Ê
Their rules and laws may not be what you are used to but you are in
a foreign country and subject to foreign laws.Ê You can be penalized by the law there just as easily as you
can in your home country, and that would not be a good addition to any
trip.
- Always
remember that you are on vacation and part of the reason you chose Playa
del Carmen is that you were looking for a something different and a little
adventurous so enjoy the differences!
