How do I get from the Cancun airport to the condo in Playa del Carmen?
Rent a Car
There are numerous rental agencies
available at the airport. You will usually receive
a better price if you arrange for you car before you arrive. Check
with Travelocity http://www.travelocity.com
or Expedia to reserve your car. http://www.expedia.com
To get to your condo from the Cancun
airport, drive south on highway 307 towards
Tulum. When you get to Playa del Carmen you will pass two stop
lights. The first is Avenue
Constitutiones and the next is Avenue Juarez. Continue
south for about a mile past Avenue Juarez. As you drive, you'll will
see two entrances to Playacar on your
left. Right after the second entrance to
Playacar you will have an opportunity to make a U turn. Make the U turn
and then drive past the first entrance
to Playacar and enter the second entrance
(This would be the first entrance you saw when you were driving south).
Drive straight east until you come to a roundabout. Turn right and
go south. You are now on the
main Playacar road. Continue south until you
see the round yellow Reef Club Resort
on your left. The Chac-Ha complex is on your
right. Enter the Chac-Ha north parking lot and park in space #203.
The security guard Miguel will
probably check with you. Just show him your key and
say that you are renting Paxman's apartment. Go up the first flight of
stairs where you can see the pool
on you left. The condo is on the top floor.

It's a 45 minute ride to Playa
del Carmen. A union controls who can carry tourists from the airport and what they charge. The ride to Playa del
Carmen will cost you 58 usd.
To take one of these authorized taxis, go to any of the TTC kiosks located around the terminal and buy
a ticket. The guys at the airport
are happy to help you find other people heading to Playa, so you can
share the fare. It usually works out to about
15 usd per person. Ask the driver
to take you to the Reef Club Resort in Playacar. Your condo is across
the street. It only costs about
35 usd to take a taxi from Playa to Cancun airport. I don't know why.
Direct bus to Playa del Carmen
The Mexican bus company Riviera now
operates a direct bus service between Cancun airport and Playa del Carmen, long awaited by many. Tickets are 65
pesos
(about 7 usd) each way, either way. It
leaves from outside the main arrival hall at the airport. The buses are clean and air-conditioned.
Just before you exit the
terminal, there is a Riviera counter where you buy the ticket. In Playa del Carmen the bus works out of the
main bus terminal on 5th Avenue and Juarez. From the bus terminal, it is a $5.00 taxi ride to your
condo. Ask the driver to
take you to the Reef Club Resort in Playacar. Your condo is across the street.
